The Infocomm Local Industry Upgrading Programme (iLIUP) aims to accelerate the development of infocomm capability of Singapore enterprises for international market competition. It also seeks to enhance the infocomm market share and revenue for the mutual benefits of multinational corporations (MNCs) and Singapore. Formerly known as the IT LIUP, its primary focus was to accelerate the development of a vibrant local IT industry by cultivating stronger ties and collaborations between local IT companies and IT MNCs. With the formation of IDA in December 1999, the IT LIUP expanded in scope to include both the information technology and communications sectors. The programme is now known as Infocomm LIUP. The iLIUP promotes strategic, mutually-beneficial partnerships between Singapore enterprises and MNCs. Through the iLIUP partnership, Singapore enterprises can gain exposure to cutting-edge technologies and tap on an established global network of technical expertise that will reduce development costs and time-to-market for their products. Singapore enterprises can also leverage on the international marketing and distribution expertise of MNCs, thereby enhancing their capabilities to penetrate global infocomm markets. On the other hand, MNCs can increase their market share by adapting their technologies for locally-developed products and services. They are also able to benefit from the vertical domain expertise of Singapore enterprises. With its IT-savvy talents and IT-ready infrastructure, Singapore is an ideal test bed and launch pad to Asia. Boon Software currently participates in iLIUP partnerships with Sun Microsystems and Oracle.

The Singapore infocomm Technology Federation (SiTF) is Singapore's premier infocomm industry association. It began in 1982 as the Singapore Federation of the Computing Industry (SFCI). In 1999, SFCI and the Microcomputer Trade Association of Singapore (MTAS) merged to become the SiTF to provide a unified front to champion the interests of the infocomm industry. The SiTF brings together more than 600 corporate members from MNCs and local companies. Collectively, its members account for over 80% of the industry revenues. The SiTF assists its members in business development, market intelligence, overseas trade missions, networking and alliances. The SiTF Singapore Enterprise Chapter (SEC) has been formed to act as the collective voice of Singapore enterprises in the SiTF. The SEC will address the needs and interests of Singapore Infocomm companies in their efforts at success in the local and global markets. The Chapter will also dedicate itself to developing and nurturing young enterprises and start-ups. SEC activities achieve a number of important purposes. The Chapter will ensure that members have access to business intelligence via market information, seminars and other educational activities such as conferences. The SEC will conduct trade missions towards the aim of achieving global recognition for its members. Networking sessions will help members get in touch with each other and members of associated industries. The Chapter will also conduct promotional events to help raise awareness of its members. The Chapter aims to conduct dialogue sessions with key industry members, associations and agencies to address industry concerns. |
