Singapore, September 2014

Pan Asia Logistics has officially opened its new warehouse at Tuas, with an automated storage and retrieval system. Pan Asia Logistics is a long-time user of Symphony WMS-Online and customer of Boon Software.

This new system is expected to boost productivity by about 70 per cent and can store up to 700,000 different spare part types and will result in space savings of about 30 per cent.

This is Pan Asia Logistics’ second facility in Singapore and will add more than 40,000 square meters to its warehouse and office space, bringing the total gross floor average in the region to more than 150,000 square meters.

The fully automated system can run continuously with occasional supervision, replacing labor-intensive manual handling that in the past led to cases of human error. With this new system, as much as 40 per cent of lower-skilled jobs will be transformed into higher-skilled roles, with a corresponding increase in wages for staff.

The adoption of the technology was supported by the Capability Development Grant from SPRING Singapore.

Speaking at the launch, Senior Minister of State for Transport and Finance Josephine Teo said it is important that businesses embrace change, in the drive towards higher productivity.

“Ultimately, all the schemes that we put in place, all the initiatives that the Government can introduce to help bring about change, bring about enhancements in the economy … cannot happen until businesses and enterprises have the passion, the commitment and determination to make things happen,” said Mrs Teo.
